High Five on Friday 11.21.14

Happy Friday All!

I am happy to say that I’ve got coffee in my hands and leggings beneath these pants to stay warm today! I believe that my fellow Midwesterners and I have started to embrace that fact that Winter is here… it’s early but it’s not going anywhere so we’d better get over it quick!

This past week has been an amazing one.

Collage Nov 21 2014

  1. I graduated from my Associations “Emerging Leaders Institute” last week at our regional conference. For the past year I have been flown around the country to leadership trainings in Chicago, Washington, DC, and Minneapolis, MN. I got the opportunity to Advocate for students on “The Hill” while strengthening my leadership abilities, and building a network of supporters across the Midwest.
  2. As I said in my opening statement, Its cold here in Iowa and across the Midwest! I thought this ecard was a nice little take on how to deal with the cold Winking smile
  3. I was selected by one of my students to attend their induction into the National Honor Society as a “Mentor of Character” this past week. Humbled… above and beyond. I am always proud to see my students achieve great things. There is hope is this next generation of leaders.
  4. I put some final touches on my kitchen. You can see them in the post here.
  5. I joined a 5 day challenge called “Praying Boldly for Your Marriage”. I always feel like when people first see that I post, re-tweet, or share something pertaining to marriage that they may have a thought that my marriage is on the rocks. With social media I feel like everyone paints a false picture of life to be rainbows and butterflies. My marriage is strong and we are happy but praying can help it continue to grow and strengthen. Whether you are religious or not I believe we can all relate to this statement below.

“Being married is incredibly difficult. Being married is amazing. Being married can seem impossibly hard. Being married can seem incredibly beautiful. There is no other person who can frustrate me the way my husband can. There is no other person who can make me feel as loved as my husband can.”

High Five: 9.20.14

Well now that the week has completely taken off without me I figured it’s better late then never to post my High Five on Friday  Saturday post.

 photo H54Fbutton_zps973d26e1.png

On Monday, I started my first of three Basic Photography Classes at Iowa State University’s Work Space. How fun is that! I told myself when I first moved to Iowa that I was going to try and put myself out there to meet new people and experience new things and well…. the first year I did awesome. I took a 5 week quilting class in Ames, I coached a U8 soccer team here in town, and I even joined a Hispanic soccer league in Perry with some of my students, which I absolutely loved. It was hard to put myself out there but once I did I really felt that my life was happier because of it.

In the past year I really haven’t branched out too much and can tell my sanity is starting to go. I’m in a rut! When I saw that the workspace was offering the class I thought it would be a great time to branch out again and G was all for it. This class I am taking is only $20 since I work at the University and it’s something I desperately need. I bought my DSLR camera two months ago and although I am reading about how to get off “automatic” it takes actually learning it hands on to grasp the concepts.

HIGH FIVE: Spirit Day

Heck Yes, it is FINALLY Friday!

Is it me or did this week just drag on and on? I blame all of the rain we have gotten here in Iowa for the past 3-4 days. It really does put a damper on the week.

Can I just say that I am so done with summer? First off, I didn’t even really have a summer with all of the crazy student trips and camps we had planned at work. My pasty body went into a pool of water for a good 20 minutes while I was back visiting my parents and that’s it. I blame myself for not taken advantage of time after work and on weekends to go over to the small lake by our home. It has a make shift beach but its something.

Anyways.

1. We celebrated my Future Sister’s Bridal Shower and Bachelorette Party back in NJ and Philly. The shower turned out great and of course the bride to be was glowing. So much pressure since some day she may be the only Shubra left once the twins get married.

Have you ever been to the “Howl at the Moon Dueling Piano Bar”? If you haven’t it’s a great time! We ended up there all night singing along and dancing. We also must have counted at least 15 other Bachelorette parties celebrating that night as well. It’s the place to be!

2. I can not believe it! My little Twins are going to be 24 tomorrow! Stop having birthday’s… it makes me feel old! These two have grown so much over the past year. I’m just so proud of them coming into their own… they are just amazing young ladies and I wish them all the happiness in the world.

Happy 24th Birthday!

4. Winston gave us a scare this past weekend. He was acting “Off”. He was turning and not sitting still at night. Panting A LOT. and just not himself. We worried like “parents” do and looked up symptoms and prayed that we wouldn’t need to take him to the vet the next day. That night we let him sleep in his room… aka.. the guest room and the next morning he was back to himself! I’m not sure if he was dehydrated or if maybe when we were playing soccer he hit his head. Who knows. We are just so happy to have him acting himself again.

5. Chicken update: The chicks are almost full grown! I have never raised chicks from the hen hatching so it’s been a little disappointing. They imprinted to her, as they should have, and wanted NOTHING to do with me. How dare they! I have been working with the flock a little more in making sure to feed them specialty items. Fruit & extra veggies from the garden. When I feed I make sure they know I’m the one gifting it to them and try to throw pieces closer and closer to me every time. I think they are gaining my trust. Whenever they see me with a snack they coming running.

On that note: If you haven’t seen a chicken or rooster run before it is the funniest thing. They can’t help but move their heads back and forth and they lift their legs like they are running high knees at a track practice. Cracks me up every time.

016

Once I can tell them apart they will officially be named Patsy & Martina to complete our little country gang.

{Dolly, Loretta, Reba, and Rocky}

Have a great weekend!
