Flower Power- Free Labels

Hi everyone! Yes, I am still alive even though its been a few weeks since I have posted. I have been super busy with Family visiting and going back to Delaware for my best friends bridal shower.

I could certainly post everything that I have done since I last blogged but I won’t bore you with that. The shower turned out great and everyone loved the decorations. I had lots of inspiration from other blogs and of course Pinterest. With my curiosity of how to make labels using Photoshop I dug in deep and made labels in three colors to match the theme of the shower and the invitations.

Buy using the design I made two separate label sizes, a smaller one for the favor bags and wooden cutlery that I wrapped, and a larger label for the food table.

Here is where I always go wrong, I was so caught up in everything that I didn't take pictures! I know, so disappointing. Hopefully someone else did take photos that will emerge soon so that I can keep and share with everyone.

Here is the only one I have of the favor bag and its a little crumpled due to the flight home to Iowa:

Like I said, I really hope to share more photos with you of how everything turned out but the other thing I wanted to share is the PDF download for the labels.  Below are the labels I printed on Card Stock to give you an idea of what they look like with print on them.

Photo Flash Backs…

Last night I was looking through my iphone and discovered I had over 350 photos on my {camera roll}! My phone has the holding capacity since it’s the 32g but I just hate sorting through all the photos that I really don’t need to store. Not to mention when people play with my phone and look through my photos I have to explain… oh yeah those were for my blog…. weird I know.

I take all my blog photos on my iphone so as I went back to look I had lots of pictures of food that I already uploaded to my Picasa account so there is just no need to have them taking up room.

I actually enjoyed going back through all of my photos and weeding through the good and bad. I forgot of all the fun ones that I said I was going to print out! This is my goal for the new house, updated pictures!

I wanted to share some with you:

Yes, I know very random. I used to be really into scrapbooking but not so much anymore, it’s very time consuming & messy. Def. not a craft that you can simply put away at the end of the day. You need a space to lay everything out and allow to stay messy as you work on your pages. I think what I am going to do is just print out the photos and get an old school photo album. You know the ones with the pages that the plastic lifts from the page and the back side is sticky to hold your photos in place. Less time consuming and I can still mark the photos as needed.

I need to start a list of all these things I want to do… it seems to grow day by day.

This weekend we are cleaning house… well not “cleaning” we are emptying out the crap we do not need. I’m big on giving to Goodwill if it’s not broken, someone can use it and I’d rather think that then visualize it at the bottom of a trash dump. However, if it is junk then I’m not moving it all the way to Iowa. Our basement currently has 3 piles…. George’s work pile that we save, the trash pile, and the GW pile. It’s supposed to rain all weekend so I am going to utilize a yucky day by being productive and organizing.

FUN FUN FUN. :)

iPhone App - Color Splash!

Well I just got my iPhone yesterday so I have been looking through lots of neat apps to add to it. One I came across that I thought was neat was the Color Splash App. It's super easy. All you do is snap or open a recent photo on your phone. Click the gray all button. Then click the color splash button and run your finger over the picture where you would like it to be in color.

Winston Waiting for his Dad

I love this picture, he loves waiting by the door waiting for that blue truck to roll into the drive. As you can see I only colored the door. I set this as my background on my iPhone. It's not too much that I can't see my apps when it is on the home screen.

If any of you have other neat apps that I should get please comment and let me know!

Enjoy!

Photoshop needs a manual!

I'm not sure about everyone else out there but I just got my photoshop up and running and it is not as easy as it looks! It took me forever to figure out how to change the image above to the reverted black and white. Picaso is so much simpilar to use if your looking to do quick edits.

I'm really not sure why it doesn't have a tuturial with it as well, and if it does I didn't find it. There are some short clips of how to do thing but they don't even show you what they are clicking on and it goes so fast you have to keep rewinding! The only reason I found out how to fix the picture above was by watching a Youtube video.

This is definately going to take some time! If you have any suggestions please comment! :)

Finally Blogging!

Ok, so when it comes to this kind of stuff I'm a bit of a perfectionist. I want my Blog to look the best. I have seriously spent a week working through different templates, headers, colors, text, and none of it was my style. I just kept going off of other blogs I've read, or borrowing HTML from free template sites and STILL I wasn't happy. Maybe a floral background, no... ok how about a scrapbook looking style, no.... what about a vintage, naaaaa. Then FINALLY i downloaded Picasa by Goggle which lead me to Picnik... a photo shopping online device. I started playing around with photos that I had saved on my computer, then from saved USB photos and came across this one.

Sparrow in a bird house.

I took this picture when I was a garden intern at Winterthur Garden and Estate the summer after I graduated from college. The estate was owned by a DuPont... yes that's right, ere to the DuPont Company. His estate has a 10 story mansion surrounded by gardens that he planted himself. It was also a self-sustaining community with a working farm, dairy, greenhouse, and train station. The train station was converted to intern housing which was pretty awesome to live in. I will upload pictures in later blogs from my internship.

I love this picture and for that it became my header, perfected by Picnik of course! You can see the obvious difference between the one above and the one in the header. My decision for the template and background colors is that I'm a simple person... I really wanted to keep the Blog looking Clean and with a Fresh layout. When it comes to adding photos and additions thats where I would rather put my spin on it making it more colorful and unique. For now it's a work in progress.

I will continue to use Picasa as I upload photos in my blog, and also encourage everyone else to use it! I also just ordered Photoshop for my MAC laptop since I would really like to retouch my wedding photos. My husband and I decided to save money by not hiring a professional photographer... good idea but now I want photos that give a little more then what we have.

As far as the title of my blog.... please tune in tomorrow. :)
