Fashion and Thirty

I’m going to pretend for a moment that it hasn’t been 3 months since my last post.

::: Moment:::

Done.

In 2 months I will be turning THIRTY… As I’ve talked to various people some of us struggle with the idea of 30 and some just don’t give a flying fart, “It’s just a number”. This gal happens to not be a fan of hitting this milestone. When you think of it, 30 years old now is like the new 20 when people are living to 105 years of age. This is what I tell myself.

I no longer struggle with 30 being a goal to hit like I’m checking off a to do list. Who the heck said you HAVE to be married, with children, with a home you own, in the job of your life by this age? I think society sucks and that this is really NOT a social norm any longer.

A quote I have just grown to love is, “Do not compare your Chapter 1 to someone else’s Chapter 30”.

Moving on.

The biggest thing I do struggle with in turning 30 is fashion. I know, how vein of me. What can I wear and what can I no longer get away with? In all honesty, I still get told I look like a college student (maybe a graduate student) but I still struggle between wanting to be youthful and being taken seriously in my career.

I had seen so many other bloggers rocking their Chucks and thought to myself, “Am I too old”? I wore these back in high school, are they really appropriate for someone my age? Then I saw more and more “older” people  wearing them. Mommies out running errands & cool dad’s in the museums with their kids rocking good ol’ Chuck-a-roo-nies.

I couldn’t help myself! On July 4th weekend I took the plunge to purchase a pair of Classic White Slip on Chucks and I have never looked back. I did receive a weird glance from the hubby the first time I wore them but nothing more and nothing less. I try not to take too many styling tips from my Carhart totting, boot wearing, manly man. Side note: He really is the cutest though. Who wouldn’t love a country boy?

With this said, I want to give a tip to all my fellow turning thirty companions. “Life is too short to worry about what others think, however, not everything at Forever 21 is forever.”

I’ve talked about this great find earlier in a post, but I’m going to talk about it again because it’s one of my favorite pieces in my closet. I found this dress at TJ Maxx after making some Christmas returns for $24.99!

Why I love it:

1. It’s knee length is terrific for work.
2. It has an extra thick waist band.
3. HELLO… it’s polka dotted!

I decided to pair it with a chambray top to bring it down a notch. I work in a fairly down to earth office so when people dress up people kind of wonder why. Well, heck with that! I love these cassie skirts and I have 2 others in fantastic prints that I can’t wait to show!

I’ve seen lots of other ladies sporting their Cassies with t-shirts and low top chucks for an even more casual look. I can not wait!

If you saw this post, I figured out how to keep it from shifting. I wore a full slip with this the first time and every time I stepped it shifted. This time I wore a half slip and it was just fine. Problemo Solved.

Hello and Welcome to “How I Wore It”!

I am an average lady of 29 years that loves fashion and feeling good about myself. I wanted to start posting some of my outfits here because I love them so much! There are lots of fashion bloggers out there and let me tell you, I’m not one of them. I’m 5’3” and 128lbs, I work a full time job during the week in education and on the weekend my husband and I are waist deep in farm/house projects. This means that my outfits usually consist of black khakis and a sweater during the weeks and knee ripped jeans with a hoodie on the weekends.

In the times that I do put some thought into an outfit I would love to post them here to my blog for all of you to see. I’ll tell you as much as I know about the pieces such as; Where and when I purchased them and the price. I’ll also share why I love the outfit so much!

Here we go!

Why I love this outfit:

1. Prints
• Some people are really scared of prints but for whatever reason I’m okay with walking over that line. I fell in love with this herringbone print in Navy and Grey. LuLaRoe has amazing prints and solids in all of their products which is why I’ve gravitated towards their items so much lately.
2. One Piece
• There is no extra thought that goes into this outfit. Just throw it on and go! This was my Easter Sunday dress for church. Our church is a little on the casual side so I wore a jean jacket not shown in these photos.
3. The Zipper
• You can’t see it here, but there is a large zipper in the back that is super cute. If you go in the link above you can see it.
4. POCKETS
• That’s right! Pockets! Nuff Said.

My First Ipsy: February 2015

Goodness, let me tell you Cold and Flu season is NO joke! Last Sunday G and I had to fore go church due to a sore throat that I came down with. I know that seems silly to skip church over, I wasn’t dying but I wasn’t sure what I was coming down with and when 90% of the church are elders I would really not wish to be responsible for an epidemic to break out across the community!

::: Cue the overly dramatic music now :::

High Five for Friday! Jamberry Edition

Have you heard of Jamberry Nail Wraps?!? Today I wanted to share with you my fabulous order that just came in and show you how easy they are to apply.

What you will need:

• Nail polish remover (If you have nail polish on your nails now)
• Alcohol (To wipe oil off of nails)
• Hairdryer or heater
• Nail File
• Cuticle Care Sticks
• Jamberry Wraps

Steps:

1. 1. Clean Nails
2. 2. Figure out which size nail wrap you will need
3. 3. Heat Wrap and place on nail
4. 4. Cut wrap close to nail edge
5. 5. File off remaining wrap (Heat again to Secure)

Done-ZZZZs!

Seriously it is that easy.

Fab Find

Every once in a blue moon I post an outfit that I just LOVE!

This past Monday G and I both had off and decided to run some shopping errands down in the “City”. I had a few items to take back from Christmas and some gifts cards to spend! G was in search of a few items himself.

Our first stop was TJ MAXX. My “MIL” got my this adorable thigh length knit cardigan for Christmas but it was a size too small and no matter how many times I tried it on I couldn’t convince myself that I looked good in it. I took it back and got some in store cash to spend. Literally, I walked over to the Woman’s section, saw this Denim Shirt Tunic hanging on a side isle, grabbed two sports bras, and went back to the check out counter. All within 5 minutes. I didn’t even try it on which is usually a no no. I just had this feeling that it was meant to be.

I couldn’t wait to wear it today! I paired it with navy blue fleece leggings… I do live in Iowa so fleece leggings are a must during winter… and I threw on my riding boots as I walked out the door.
