2015 Resolution: Grace

Selfie

Hello 2015.

#TheTruthIs

Over the past year I have noticed a small green monster that lives amongst me. He shows up when scrolling through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest. He speaks to me… telling me that life is unfair and that the people in these photos are underserving of the happiness they depict in their photos. He is a nasty little bugger that makes me think and say things that I would never want people to say about me. He taunts me and tells me that I will never have what they have.

I hope I’m not alone in this.

Over the past few months of 2014 I started reading more bible verses and joined a bible book study based around the book, “Before Amen” by Max Lucado. It’s helped me to realize that I don’t need to pray for others to “Get their crap together”…(Not all the time anyway) but what I need is to pray for myself to “find a more graceful mindset”.

We would all be lying if we said that we are always excited for those around us. Humans are very jealous beings and any sign that we are failing leads us to speak nasty horrible things in order to build ourselves back up.

This year I thought long and hard about a resolution that I could actually achieve. (And of course like everyone else I want to lose 10 lbs) I want to work on a piece of me that isn’t on the surface, it is deep within my core, and is a true gift granted by God.

{GRACE}

The love and mercy given to us by God because God desires us to have it, not because of anything we have done to earn it.

How can I live in a more graceful mindset?

By filling my daily thoughts with loving, meaningful, merciful ones instead.

  1. I will not judge- you never know what that persons struggle may be today… We ALL Struggle.
  2. I will focus on what you can control: My Words, My Thoughts, My Situation
  3. I will not add flames to the fire
  4. When I am faced with the “so called green monster” – I will pray for myself to be more humble
  5. Let. It. Go - I have realized that everyone lives their own lives by their own choices… Just because I live mine in the way I choose does not mean I can expect others to live in that same way.

I feel as though I’m putting my heart in the right place with this resolution. It’s manageable, attainable, and although it’s a goal that may not show on the outside it will lead me to a healthier state of mind. I believe that negative thoughts will still show up 100 times a day but how I manage them will make all the difference.

Good luck to you all in your 2015 New Year Resolutions! We’re all in it together!
